As a Senior Director of Enterprise Architecture, you will be responsible for translating institutional strategy into technical needs and requirements for Duke Health. You will be responsible for leading Architecture teams in defining and driving the technical execution of strategic initiatives such as the Duke Data Enclave and AI platform, developing new and traditional system standard architectures. The Senior Director will be a part of the Office of CTO team. This team will help develop comprehensive,cost-effective solutions and participate in Research and Development technical efforts. The Senior Director will lead the technical architecture review board activities.
Duke Health is a complex environment and we are looking for a strategic architect to join the office of CTO to start digital transformation at Duke. You will be engaging customers - doctors, nurses, other caregivers, researchers, professors, and academic leaders, as well as administration - to help understand needs and develop comprehensive strategies and solutions.
Essential Tasks/Responsibilities:
Oversee a team of Enterprise Architects and report into the Office of CTO
Lead a team of Enterprise Architects including virtualization, container, and Infrastructure as Code
Work with CTO on strategic direction based on Business needs and strategy
Experience with structured Enterprise Architecture practices, hybrid cloud deployments, and on-premise-to-cloud migration deployments and roadmaps
Ability to create standards for Public Cloud technology to help with the digital transformation of Duke health
Lead teams to:
Provide baseline architecture and strategy for POC Sandbox environments
Architect, design, and present multi-offering solutions to customers, covering a wide variety of product spaces including multiple public cloud environments
Define the system components, services, technologies, and design required to implement a solution that represents an intersection of elements from the Business and Technology architecture domains and addresses a specific business opportunity or problem
Set standards to maintain enterprise architecture design strategies, design concepts, roadmaps, principals, governance, and standards
Set standards for document design diagrams for implementation
Lead initiatives to develop more efficient processes through technologies (Infrastructure as Code as an example) to reduce, time, cost, manual intervention, and complexity
Maintain a broad and deep understanding of multiple technologies, reference architectures, and business applications
Collaborate with the customers and service delivery teams to bring our customers the most efficient, practical, maintainable solutions
Effectively relate technical concepts to non-technical audiences and articulate the business value of a given technical solution
Develops solid working relationships with colleagues, customers, and across project teams to effectively achieve functional/project goals.
Builds strong working relationships with members of his/her team and those within other relevant teams, departments, or disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in emerging technologies including Enterprise cloud computing AI platforms, Machine Learning, Data Lakes
Required Qualifications
Education/Training:
Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of progressive experience in a combination of IT design and architecture disciplines with at least 3 years of solution architecture experience and 3 years of management experience.
If no degree, 10 years of progressive experience in a combination of design and/or architecture disciplines.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Cloud environments
Legally authorized to work for any US employer
Required Skills
Well-versed in enterprise technology buying and evaluation processes paired with a strong understanding of hyper-scale computing solutions and experience building, architecting, designing, and implementing highly distributed global cloud-based systems.
Experience in Big Data within the cloud,including data analytics/warehousing, and with database design/querying
5+ years of experience implementing virtual environments in private and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience in architecting, developing software, or internet scale production-grade big data solutions in virtualized environments.
Experience with DevOps (Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery)
Ability to work, communicate effectively, and influence stakeholders on internal/external engineering teams, product development teams, and external partners and executive-level leadership
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
3+ years managing an architecture or innovations team
Ability to interpret customer business and technical needs.
Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent English language skills, both oral and written.
Experience in a healthcare environment
