JOB SUMMARY:
The Graduate Nurse Residency Program is a full-time RN position that creates a seamless educational transition into the nursing world. This position offers an exceptional experience for new RN graduates to continue to learn and grow in their nursing career while assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients. Graduate nurse residents are expected to remain full-time on one unit for the entire year of the program, as well as actively participate in all learning opportunities that are offered.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
This Level IV (highest level) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, is a 56-bed unit where patients and their families are provided complete and comprehensive, live saving care to the most complex and critically ill newborns and serves as a regional referral center critical care for premature infants. Nurses care for patients ranging from 23 weeks to newborn/term age.
Patients may require respiratory or ventilation support (including high frequency and nitric oxide). Patients may have lung or heart problems, need surgical intervention for birth defects to include cardiac defects, require total-body cooling, and/or require consultative care from our pediatric subspecialists or have other life-threatening conditions. The NICU is also an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) center. Nurses have the ability to advance their skills through becoming a Delivery Room (DR) nurse, ECMO nurse, and other professional development opportunities. Preferred experience includes GN and/or RN license and professional nursing certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and a strong desire to care for neonates and their families.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Graduate Nurse with a Temporary Practice Permit or currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by State of employment.
Candidates must have graduated within one (1) year of the cohort start date.
AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period.
Please note - Penn State Hershey requires all registered nurses hired after July 1st, 2015 to enroll in a baccalaureate in nursing degree program within six months of their hire date and complete the degree within 4 years of their hire date. (This does not apply if your hire date was prior to June 30th, 2015).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently. Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally. Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally. Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly. Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
