About the Role:

Job Summary

Assists the assigned respiratory therapist with direct patient care .Administers and coordinates a variety of treatments/modalities related to respiratory problems and properly charts administered treatment. Consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of patients. Effectively communicates to members of the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care changes or updates. Assists Respiratory therapist and responds to a variety of emergency and critical care situations, helping to extend quality therapy/treatment to those patients. This position will care for patients in adult and geriatric age groups. Will attend regularly Tier One huddle and staff meetings, while learning and utilizing the Error Prevention Tools and behaviors to ensure that they are delivering safe care. Assist respiratory therapist with turning around equipment, transporting any needed devices and or supplies for efficient and quality patient care.

Minimum Job Qualifications

• Licensure or other certifications: Active Paramedic License in the state of Georgia & BLS Certification required.

• Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

• Responsible for effective communication to promote quality patient care. Demonstrates willingness to communicate with respiratory therapist, supervisor and other clinical team members caring for patients on any patient care issues, changes and or questions that arise. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with physicians as needed. Communicates with assigned shift primary Respiratory Therapist or Supervisor on all care concerns. Gives detailed shift report.

• Responsible for complete documentation in all aspects of the medical record. Verifies all new start orders and notifies shift primary therapist on any concerns and awareness.

  Verifies orders before treating patients. Should scan medications prior to delivery. Completely Charts any treatments, therapies, vitals, and other required department paperwork. Properly completes any other assigned and permitted duties within scope of care for respiratory.

• Responsible for management of critical care patients. Demonstrates ability to manage patients needs and give quality customer service. Assimilates chart information such as CXR, lab and H&P and progress notes to properly manage patient. Assists therapist and nurses with other duties as requested to provide quality patient care. Documents thoroughly any changes in patient care plan, i.e. clear explanation of events and deviation from documented plan of care. Notifies shift primary therapist and/or supervisor of any significant events/changes noted in patient care.

• Responsible for floor therapy modalities. Performs assigned therapy and new starts in a timely manner. Assist with any other tasks or duties as assigned. Provides patient education and information as needed. Understands use of oxygen administration and tank safety. Understands the aerosol evaluation protocol. Follow up to therapist of any patients who move to different floor areas or units and give proper handoff to receiving therapist. Informs floor of unexpected delays in treatment and escalate appropriately to chain of command; shift primary therapist, supervisor.
