Under limited supervision, coordinates the daily technical activities of assigned staff and ensures the validity of microscopic studies made on slides as well as examining slides to detect evidence of cancer and other abnormalities. Coordinates and guides the daily activities of assigned personnel, checking quality and quantity, instructs staff on laboratory techniques, methods and procedures; assigns daily workload. Reviews work performed by staff in assigned area. Serves as technical resource person providing guidance and direction to laboratory personnel in resolving difficult problems, instrument failure or malfunction, utilizing safety techniques; trains new personnel in performing job functions. Assists in preparing and maintaining laboratory procedures manual; maintains various records and logs required for certification/accreditation. Monitors accurate calibration and use of automated, non-automated and computerized equipment. Maintains adequate level of supplies and materials necessary for efficient operations. Assists in evaluating and developing new laboratory techniques and methodologies and recommends changes to supervisor. Assist in training and orientation of technical staff. Performs duties of department staff as required in order to maintain schedules and uninterrupted service. Adheres compliance with established lab policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with requirements of lab safety, Q.A. accreditation and regulatory agencies. Performs other related duties as required. [BRASSRING IMPORT 10/5/16]
1. Bachelor's degree in Cytology or related science. 2. Registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Cytologist or equivalent. 3. Five years of progressively responsible Cytology lab experience required. [BRASSRING IMPORT 10/5/16]
